This page is currently being redesigned. In the interim, here is a sampling of recent work, "Paletas de Pintores", which was exhibited in El Centro Cultural Olimpo in Mérida México in October. For work in progress, please see my Flickr account.

Painters' Palettes

Painters' Palettes was inspired by the varied palettes which painters use to mix their paint; these range from plastic, to wood or cardboard. "Palette" refers, as well, to the kind of paint they employ, be it oil, acrylic or water colour. Some of the painters whose palettes I examined are professionals, others are relatively obscure; a few are simple house painters. What fascinates me about them are the "finger prints" they leave behind as they mix their paints; their brush stroke, the choice of medium, all these reveal something of the emotional character of the painter and his way of thinking. On occasion I am also inspired by the artists' smocks or even drop sheets. Each of these surfaces is unique and speaks to me.

My aim is not only to capture something of the artist's nature but to make his "leftovers" my own "meal". It would seem that the menu is almost infinite; the observer, it seems, can find art where and when he permits himself to do so.

This series comprises some 25 images that measure approximately 24" x 36". They are printed on a glossy Epson paper by an ink jet printer. They are also available printed by a laser printer. Larger prints are available as are smaller (no smaller than 20" x 24").
